Kevin Mayer is leaving his post as the head of Disney’s streaming efforts to become the CEO of the short-form video app TikTok.
Mayer’s appointment will be effective June 1, when he will also become a chief operating officer of c.
He will report directly to the ByteDance founder and chief executive Yiming Zhang.
“Kevin’s wealth of experience building successful global businesses makes him an outstanding fit for our mission of inspiring creativity for users globally,” Zhang said.
Mayer’s job at Disney included managing Hulu, ESPN+, and Hotstar operations on the direct-to-consumer platform, according to ByteDance. He led the successful launch of the Disney+ streaming service in November but in February was passed over as Disney’s new chief executive.
